Monarchs and Migrants Weekend Saturday, August 30th & Sunday, August 31st, 2008 Hike the Ganaraska September to December, 2008 Tighten up your laces and join the hike leaders of the Ganaraska Hiking Association as they explore the Ganaraska Trail and other trails in the region. The Frontenac Challenge Monday, September 1st to Friday, October 31, 2008 The Frontenac Challenge involves hiking all 160 km of the Frontenac Provincial Park’s trail network between September 1st and October 31st.To meet the challenge, all participants have to do is pick up a registration form from the Frontenac Provincial Park Office, obtain a park permit and then set out to hike through the autumn splendour of Frontenac Provincial Park. Participants will receive a certificate at an award BBQ on November 9th at the park. more... Haliburton Forest Trail Race Saturday, September 6th & Sunday, September 7th, 2008 The Haliburton Forest Trail Race offers runners a choice between 25k, 50k, 50 mile and 100 mile runs through some of the most beautiful scenery the area has to offer. This is the 15th annual year for this event, with runners coming from all over North America & Europe. more... 5th Annual Kawartha Lakes Classic Cycling Tour Saturday, September 6th, 2008 This community non-competitive cycling event is a great experience for everyone. There are 25km, 50km, 100km, 160km routes ensuring that there is something for everyone. The Big O: Women's Mountain Bike Charity Event for Ovarian Cancer Canada Sunday, September 7th, 2008 The Big-O is a mountain bike charity event, exclusively for women. It's easy, it's fun, and it's to raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Canada! The fall colours in Ganaraska Forest will be beautiful, the air will be crisp and clean, and you will feel incredibly alive. more... Hastings Highlands Hilly Hundred Saturday, September 13th, 2008 The 3rd Annual Hastings Highlands Hilly Hundred, billed as “Ontario’s Toughest Century Ride”, is a cycling event that weaves its way through the hills and valleys of the Canadian Shield from Bancroft, Combermere, Wilno, Barry’s Bay and back. Participants can choose from 4 distances, approximately 60k, 80k, 160k, and 240k. The terrain is a mix of gentle country paved roads, limited highway riding, and “breathtaking” hills carved through ancient granite bedrock. Riders will travel through some of Ontario’s most beautiful landscapes, pristine lakes and colourful hardwood forests. more... Depot in the Fall Sunday, September 14th, 2008 The 9 km hike gets you up close and personal with lakes, granite outcrops, polyploidy ferns, beaver dams, logging history and interior campsites in the Depot Lakes Conservation Area. This conservation area is 3,000 acres in size and contains Second, Third and Fourth Depot Lakes. Hiking time is approximately 5 hours with stops and lunch. more... Peterborough Family Cycling Adventure Saturday, September 20th, 2008 A lovely cycle ride along the Scenic River Road Trail between Peterborough and Lakefield. Participants receive healthy treats at checkpoints along the trail. At each checkpoint, participants get their Cycling Adventure Passport stamped. When they complete their ride, participants submit their passport to be entered in a draw for prizes. Cyclists start at Trent University and follow the river along the trail to just before Lakefield. The distance of the ride is approximately 8 km each way. You decide how far you want to ride. more... Salmon River Canoe Paddle Sunday, September 28th, 2008 Join local naturalist and canoeing/kayaking enthusiast Terry Sprague as he guides you on an interpretive paddle up the Salmon River, from Roblin to Croydon. This scenic quiet stretch of the river is full of colour in the fall and a delight to paddle. Rub shoulders with some of the river's inhabitants and learn about the wildflowers along the way, as well as the river's history. Look at some of the incredible flora and fauna along the way - great blue herons, water willow, painted turtles, and buttonbush. Cavan Hills Country Run Saturday, October 18th, 2008 Enjoy an exhilarating run or walk through the scenic Cavan countryside, then visit our hospitality tent for delicious treats. Event includes a 10K Run, a 10K Walk, and a 4K Run/Walk. Medals and prizes will be awarded, and all registered participants will receive a gift bag.
