The Frontenac Challenge

September 1st - October 31st, 2008

The Frontenac Challenge involves hiking all 160 km of the Frontenac Provincial Park’s trail network between September 1st and October 31st.To meet the challenge, all participants have to do is pick up a registration form from the Frontenac Provincial Park Office, obtain a park permit and then set out to hike through the autumn splendour of Frontenac Provincial Park. Haliburton Forest Trail Race

Hastings Highlands Hilly Hundred

The 3rd Annual Hastings Highlands Hilly Hundred, billed as “Ontario’s Toughest Century Ride”, is a cycling event that weaves its way through the hills and valleys of the Canadian Shield from Bancroft, Combermere, Wilno, Barry’s Bay and back.  Participants can choose from 4 distances, approximately 60k, 80k, 160k, and 240k. The terrain is a mix of gentle country paved roads, limited highway riding, and “breathtaking” hills carved through ancient granite bedrock.  Riders will travel through some of Ontario’s most beautiful landscapes, pristine lakes and colourful hardwood forests. more...

Depot in the Fall

The 9 km hike gets you up close and personal with lakes, granite outcrops, polyploidy ferns, beaver dams, logging history and interior campsites in the Depot Lakes Conservation Area.  This conservation area is 3,000 acres in size and contains Second, Third and Fourth Depot Lakes. Salmon River Canoe Paddle

Join local naturalist and canoeing/kayaking enthusiast Terry Sprague as he guides you on an interpretive paddle up the Salmon River, from Roblin to Croydon. This scenic quiet stretch of the river is full of colour in the fall and a delight to paddle. Rub shoulders with some of the river's inhabitants and learn about the wildflowers along the way, as well as the river's history. Look at some of the incredible flora and fauna along the way - great blue herons, water willow, painted turtles, and buttonbush. We will have lunch near an old bridge ruins where the river is but a trickle, before returning back to our cars. Please bring your own canoe. more...

 

Deep Roots Relay

A family fundraiser event where team members complete different legs of the 25 km relay that starts at Maynooth Railway Station in the north and ends at Bancroft Railway Station in the south. Participants will discover clues to the past along the route to win prizes. Professor Hossenfeffer's FAUX PAS

At the 2007 Halloween Geocaching Event Cache “In Pursuit of a Repulsive Potion” unsuspecting Geocachers endured the horrifying hunt for repulsive potion ingredients; the treacherous journey through the Cemetery of Chaos and Corruption; and the incessant, cackling of the wild and wacky Witches of Wilberforce only to become the unwitting accomplices to the horrendous, gut wrenching, disembowelment of Professor Hossenfeffer who fell victim to the witches “SPILLING YOUR GUTS” spell.  This October 2008 join fellow Geocachers in the search for suitable donor organs and assist a renowned medical team of Cracker-Jack-Doctors as they perform radical reconstructive surgery on Professor Hossenfeffer.  This activity does not require an in-depth knowledge of anatomy but you should know your left arm for your right ventricle.  Rated “G” this outing is suitable for all ages so kids it’s all right to bring your parents as long as they promise to behave.  Dress for the weather (we have yet to have good weather but we’ve always had a good time)Bring flashlights, sterilize your GPS and make sure you sign your Organ Donor card. more...
